I knew what kind of game I was playing in Dead Space 1 Pure survival horror. Remember the "Ring Around the Rosy" bit in Dead Space 1? That was eerie and felt like it was more of a true horror themed bit in the game. The mystery as to what the necromorphs were and where they came from made them feel more threatening. I felt genuinely creeped out and had a constant feeling of dread. Dead Space 1 was so ingenious (probably thanks to the now departed Glen Schofield) because of it's "you're completely alone in the dark and you better man up and make it out of here" feeling. They pop up constantly and in mostly brightly lit areas. The necromorphs just aren't really scary now.
After the Dead Space 3 demo, I felt that this series is taking a wrong turn. Dead Space 2 was still pretty scary and had some pretty gut wrenching moments. The first Dead Space was incredibly creepy and scary because of the atmosphere, mystery, sound design and pure survival elements. Just looking for friendly conversation about it.
I posted this on another thread, but I feel it sums up my thoughts nicely and I want to hear other fans opinions.
